When you can’t use saltwater for everything…..

Hi everyone! Heather J. here and wanted to share how our cruise is progressing.  We left the dock at 0001 Thursday night and made it to our first station around 9 am yesterday morning.

The science team was getting the net assembled and all was going well until……  We got word that the water pump wasn’t working which meant we had to return to port. There’s a few things we can’t do without out here on the big blue- a bed to sleep in, science to work on, ice cream, and freshwater.  The crew scrambled to find a replacement pump and we headed back to the dock, arriving late last night.  The engineers worked their magic on the system and we were able to leave the dock by 9:30 am this morning and we are now heading to our next station.

This ship is the perfect platform for us to work on and when a ship gets to be 46 years old, care must be taken with all of the onboard systems that we rely on.  The crew works tirelessly to make sure we are safe and provided for as we accomplish our goals.  Excited to be back on our way!
