Hello everyone!
My name is Bianca Ruiz, and I am a master's student working under Dr. Tracey Sutton's in the Oceanic Ecology Lab at Nova Southeastern University. Some of you may recognized me from our previous DP10 and DSB2 cruise blogs. This is my third cruise with the DEEPEND consortium, and I am excited to catch you all up on what has been going on in the water!

R/V Point Sur vessel on the night of May 7th before departing for the DP11 cruise.
Early yesterday morning, around 3 AM on May 10th, we had our first trawl processing over in our first station B001. This trawl was packed with a lot of diverse fishes, shrimps, and squids. Our team got together and processed all our nets over the course of about 5-6 hours! This is one of our longer processing times, as we are still going the groove of working together to get these specimens sent out to our collaborators.

Today, we are at our second station over in B175, with several more stations scheduled for the cruise. Later this week, you will get to hear more from our scientists on board about what they do and their specialties.
Thanks for following!
