DP11, Here We Come!

Hello, everyone-

Heather J. here and I am excited to share that we are mobilizing for our next RESTORE cruise, DP11!  We are all working our way to Gulfport, MS this week to board the R/V Point Sur.

Thursday, May 8th will be our first day of operations in the midwater column of the Gulf of Mexico where we will be using our MOC10 net to collect deep sea fauna from the surface to 1500 m deep.  Our cruises are designed to conduct long term monitoring of this large and important habitat since the DWH oil spill occurred.  The data we collect will be integrated into resource management initiatives for the Gulf which is essential for successful management of this valuable resource in the future.  Funding for this expedition is part of our NOAA RESTORE Science Program award which runs through 2029.  We will be doing blog posts along the way and you can follow us through our ship tracker on the Home page as well.

We are excited to share our science with you all!
