Landers, eDNA, MOCNESS, Oh My!
Hi everyone,
PhD Student Lisa Rose here!
We are excited to be back in the Gulf for our third Deep Sea Benefits research cruise, where we will continue gathering information on the biodiversity of this ecosystem to inform restoration efforts.
We arrived in Gulfport, MS earlier this week so folks could assemble equipment and load the ship. There was a brief delay in departure, but with the help of the amazing Pt. Sur crew and their network, we got back on our ‘feet’ quickly (more on that later). This gave the science team plenty of time to get their stations ready.
During this cruise, we are heading west where our first stop is to deploy the lander, which I haven’t seen yet, so I’m excited! Then we begin collecting eDNA, deploy the MOCNESS, and collect acoustic data.
We will be out here having fun until August 13th, so follow along with our blog and cruise tracker to hear directly from the science team and crew on the amazing research happening here with the DEEPEND|RESTORE team.
