DEEPEND Consortium publishes major findings in top-ranked journal, PNAS

Findings from the DEEPEND Consortium’s deep-pelagic time-series over a 13-year period have been published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States (PNAS), a top-ranked, high impact factor journal. The paper is titled “Immense but not immutable: A sudden and sustained decline in deep-pelagic life in a large oceanic ecosystem” and is available online with open-access to anyone. The article was published online on October 20th ahead of the issue in which it appears (Volume 123, no. 43) which was published October 27, 2026. We are extremely proud that a DEEPEND anglerfish image taken by Dr. Danté Fenolio was chosen to appear on the front cover of the journal, with an “About the Cover” synopsis of our article in the Table of Contents.
