Andrea Bernard, PhD

Andrea Bernard is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Nova Southeastern University and a member of the Guy Harvey Research Institute and Save Our Seas Shark Research Center.  She earned a BS (Marine and Freshwater Biology) and a MS (Integrative Biology) from the University of Guelph, and completed her PhD in 2013 (Marine Biology) at Nova Southeastern University. Her work focuses on using genetic tools (DNA sequencing, microsatellites, and single nucleotide polymorphisms) to study the genetic connectivity, demography, biodiversity and evolutionary history of elasmobranchs, billfishes, and coral reef associated taxa. For the DEEPEND project, Andrea will be working with Drs. Shivji and Eytan and will be using genetic and genomic tools to study the biodiversity of deep sea fishes.
