Ron Eytan, PhD
Ron Eytan, a Chicago native, is an Assistant Professor of Marine Biology at Texas A&M University at Galveston. He received his PhD in 2010 from Louisiana State University. After postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Georgia and at Yale University, he joined the faculty at Galveston in January 2014. His lab studies the origin and maintenance of marine biodiversity in marine fishes, using genomic and computational methods. He has broad interests in phylogenomics and phylogeography, population genetics/genomics and the geography and genetics of speciation in marine fishes. Ron is part of the genetics consortium on the DEEPEND project. Along with Mahmood Shivji, he will be using DNA barcoding to identify and discover new deep sea fishes in the Gulf of Mexico. He will also be using genomic methods to track changes in population sizes in deep sea fishes over the course of the DEEPEND project.
